Cheadle Golf Club is proud to announce that Judith Sandford has been Short listed for the England Golf awards 2019 in the category ‘Volunteer of the year’. This is the 40th year of the England Golf awards which will be held at the Royal Lancaster hotel in London on 21st March 2019.

Judith was nominated by 2019/20 Lady Captain Jackie Popplewell who said ‘Judith does may jobs around the Club, mostly in the back office, but I nominated her for the work she has done getting Ladies into Golf over the past six years, setting up, organising and leading our beginners programme and bringing new Ladies into our growing Ladies section. Judith is passionate about bring Ladies to Golf and helpful and patient while people are learning.’

Judith started to develop our beginners programme some six years ago. Lessons run by our Professional Tom Clancy take place every Sunday at 11.00 am with formal re-launches of the programme every six months. Judith manages the programme and takes beginners to play a few holes after the lesson. Supported by Val Smith and other members of the Ladies Committee everybody moves at a pace that they feel comfortable with.

Judith said ‘I am surprised, embarrassed and delighted to be short listed for such a prestigious award. Cheadle Golf Club is run by its members and many jobs are done by volunteers. This is recognition for the work that the whole team does in making Cheadle Golf Club a great place to learn and play Golf.’
